What the Russian hackers are now planning around the election

As the "Krone" has learned from well-informed security circles, a Russian hacker collective is planning to sabotage the National Council elections on Sunday. The domestic security forces have been warned - because the Putin-affiliated cyber criminals have big plans. The "Krone" spoke to an expert who is in contact with the hackers and knows that the whole of Austria is a target.

The Ministry of the Interior has registered an increasing number of attacks on websites since September 16. Most recently, the websites of the ÖVP, the SPÖ and the KPÖ were affected, as well as the Ministry of Finance and the Court of Audit. The aim of these so-called DDoS attacks is to overload the network, which can lead to corresponding outages.
