The situation is dramatic, Salzburg's mayors outline the financial situation. 42 municipalities are on the verge of suffering budgetary shipwreck. Concrete effects are also mentioned. One or two are already threatened with closure.

"The municipalities can't take any more," says the red mayor of Bischofshofen, Hans-Jörg Obinger, speaking plainly and saying what many local leaders are thinking. "We need more money, there are problems everywhere. If things stay as they are, the municipalities will no longer be able to invest in their own infrastructure."
