Landlady closes: “Looking for staff for years”

The Martinelli family has been running an inn on the Leber in Stattegg near Graz since 1959. Now, in the third generation, it is over for the time being: no staff and ever fewer tips made the business a burden that was no longer sustainable. Another traditional restaurant is lost.

It's high season for Claudia Martinelli: a sunny weekend, when many families and tourists hike and cycle through the countryside around Graz, fortifying themselves with a schnitzel. But on July 31, the traditional Martinelli restaurant closes and will probably remain closed for longer. "We didn't want a big farewell because it's hard for us," says the young landlady. A Facebook post surprised the regulars on Thursday.
