The world's most valuable online retailer may still be based in the USA, but the Chinese competition is hot on Amazon's heels. The low-cost stores Temu & Shein in particular are giving the top dog a hard time. But it has a plan.

Last week, Amazon welcomed retailers in China to an unusual event. Participation was by invitation only, as no information about the plan was to be leaked. Temu, Shein and other Chinese online stores, which have increasingly spread to the USA and Europe in recent years, should not be forewarned when giant Amazon launches its counterattack.
