US presidents in conflict with the justice system

Never before has a sitting or former US president been in prison. Whether it stays that way depends on the judge in the case of the hush money affair involving Donald Trump, who has been convicted of 34 counts. However, several US heads of state have already come into conflict with the law. 

A curious legend surrounds Ulysses S. Grant, for example. He was commander-in-chief of the US Army during the Civil War and the 18th President of the USA from 1869 to 1877. Police officer William H. West stopped Grant in 1872 because - not for the first time - he was driving his one-horse carriage far too fast.
