Archbishop of Vienna: Styrian is one of the favorites

The search for a successor to Christoph Schönborn, who is stepping down next year, is entering the hot phase. The "Krone" knows the church's secret plans - and why Wilhelm Krautwaschl is suddenly involved. 

Christoph Schönborn's days as Archbishop of Vienna are numbered. Not because he has fallen out of favor with the Pope, the opposite is the case. But because he will be 80 years old next year and will finally step down from his high church office in the course of the year. It is only at Francis' request that the cardinal, weakened by several serious illnesses, has not already stepped down. This is why the search for a suitable successor is now in full swing behind the scenes: the nuncio, i.e. the papal envoy to Austria, is making inquiries and asking the local bishops: who could move into the venerable St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna as the new "landlord" in 2025?
