Crowding in grammar schools calls city boss to the scene

The four grammar schools in Wels are bursting at the seams. Even pupils with excellent school reports have to be turned away. As it has been five decades since the last grammar school was built, Mayor Andreas Rabl wants to tackle the problem. A long breath will probably be necessary, as in Leonding, for example. 

In Wels, a super certificate is no guarantee of a place at a grammar school. A single "good" can be decisive for a rejection. Meanwhile, the waiting list has been growing for years with over 200 applications. The second largest city in the country has a total of four general secondary schools.
