30 years ago, Dr. Ernst Geiger (69) was chief investigator in the case of serial woman killer Jack Unterweger. Is the current wave of violence comparable to back then? What is different today? What does he say as a profiler? Can you recognize omens and prevent femicides?

"Krone": Exactly 30 years ago, you led the investigation into the case of serial woman killer Jack Unterweger. Do you feel reminded of this when you follow the current events? Therehave already been eight murders of women since the beginning of the year, most recently five in just one weekend.
Dr. Ernst Geiger: No, you can't compare them any more than you can compare the current cases with each other. The Afghan asylum seeker who stabs three Asian prostitutes in a religious frenzy has little in common with the manager who recently strangled his wife and 13-year-old daughter, or the 93-year-old pensioner who kills his seriously ill wife and wants to die himself - except that the victims were women. But not every murder of a woman is also a femicide, as it is now called.
