Tyrolean organic calves: Marathon to a cruel death

Two baby calves were transported 1250 kilometers from an organic mountain farm in Tyrol to be slaughtered in Apulia. The organic guidelines do not put a stop to such an ordeal. Many consumers feel misled.

"It's the first time we've come across a case like this," says Hagen Schwarz from the Association Against Animal Factories (VGT), shaking his head in disbelief. Their birth on an organic mountain farm in the district of Kitzbühel did not protect the animals "Laura" and "Lisa", who were just three and a half and four weeks old respectively, from the ordeal of a two-day transport over 1250 kilometers with a final stop at a slaughterhouse near Bari at the end of January.
