Despite the risk of avalanches and bad weather, ski tourers repeatedly venture into open terrain. These ill-considered excursions often end tragically and even fatally. Editor Elisa Aschbacher ventures off-piste on a ski tour and gets tips from experts.

Wrapped up warm, it's off to the mountains for me. I'm going on my favorite winter activity - ski touring. But this time it's going to be different than usual. Because I'm going off-piste for the first time. And as a beginner in this area, I'm not venturing there alone. I'm accompanied by our "Krone" mountain expert Hannes Wallner and mountain guide Toni Riepler. Our destination? The Glorer Hütte (2641m) in Kals am Großglockner in East Tyrol.
