School choice: “Dramas play out in families”

Over the next few weeks, many primary school pupils across Austria will have to decide whether to attend a secondary school or a grammar school in the fall. Parent representatives from Tyrol describe how much pressure children and parents are under in the battle for the supposedly best school places. And they report some absurd consequences, including lawsuits. 

"It really is a battle - and dramas are unfolding in families." That's what Stefan Boscheri says. Together with Christiane Götz, he heads the Tyrolean Parents' Association. Families exchange ideas there and school problems are discussed. There is currently another central topic: the aforementioned fight for a place at grammar school.
