Landau and Schönborn:
For the first time, the two dignitaries answer questions from the "Krone". Cardinal Christoph Schönborn with Caritas President Michael Landau about the church, inflation, anger, irreconcilable politics - and farewells.
The atmosphere in the library of the Archbishop's Palace in Vienna's city center is cordial. You can tell they both like each other.
"Krone": You have been friends for years. How did you get to know each other?
Michael Landau: I started my job as Caritas Director in 1995 and we went to Russia together, where we set up bakeries as Caritas. Then and now, I have always greatly appreciated the trust you placed in me and Caritas. Although, of course, there were also attempts to separate what belongs together.
Christoph Schönborn: When you are the voice of the poor, you don't always like to be heard. Hence my conviction, which you have often heard over the years or which I have always expressed in defense of Caritas: "A Caritas that is not a nuisance is not a good Caritas."
