Are discussions about wind power in Tyrol just hot air?
The wind power potential in Tyrol is not yet being exploited. Possible locations and exclusion criteria for wind turbines are being discussed. Yet these would be important if Tyrol is to achieve its energy targets by 2050. The province is promoting wind measurements for planned large-scale plants. Six applications have been submitted so far, 30 project ideas are being floated around.
Vorarlberg: zero. Salzburg: zero. Tyrol: zero. The land of wind turbines begins in the east and south of Austria. According to figures from IG Windkraft, Carinthia, for example, has ten turbines, Upper Austria 31, Styria 122, Burgenland 456 and Lower Austria as many as 823. In total, 1451 rotors are currently turning in the Austrian wind.
