Popular “Raxbräu” beer gets a cool location

On March 21, the popular "Raxbräu" beer from the mountain region of the same name will have a new home. The former cinema and musicians' home in Hirschwang an der Rax is being converted into a fine brewery and gourmet location. Instead of 300 liters per week, 6000 liters can then be brewed. 

In 1959, cinema classics such as "Wehe, wenn sie losgelassen" were shown in the old cinema in Hirschwang an der Rax, but from next week, the finest beer will be brewed and served there.

Die-hard beer drinkers have been familiar with "Raxbräu" since 2006. Until recently, it was still brewed in Payerbach - but only 300 liters a week due to a lack of space.

The "Raxbräu" beer is characterized by the fact that it is not filtered and not pasteurized. "Nevertheless, it can be kept chilled for up to six months," explains Niko Sindelar.(Bild: Doris Seebacher)

Brewing beer, eating and drinking in a former movie theater
The demand was so great that "Raxbräu" brewer Sasza Hauser and his nephew Niko Sindelar looked around for a new location. They found what they were looking for in the former musicians' home, which had previously also been used as a "movie theater".

And the new location is impressive. A cozy bar was created in the entrance area and behind it, in the old cinema hall, the brewery and plenty of seating for guests. After all, the new pub, which bears the same name as the beer, is not to miss out on culinary delights and celebrations. Head brewer Hauser will be cooking himself. "I'm the best award-winning chef who didn't learn to cook," laughs Hauer at compliments on his excellent culinary skills.

A cozy guest garden, which is perfectly embedded in the mountain backdrop of the Rax massif, already makes the restaurant a real insider tip for beer lovers and day trippers.
