Alcohol-related accidents: Immobilizer as the only solution?

There is lively discussion and debate in the Krone forum every day. In our "Readers' Debate" section, we would like to highlight particular comments and ask the community for their opinion on an exciting aspect. This time it's about car accidents under the influence of alcohol. Styria is exemplary for this problem. So-called alcolocks would be a possible solution. How do you see this?

In Styria, accidents under the influence of alcohol have increased compared to the previous year, despite higher penalties and sanctions. Klaus Robatsch from the Austrian Road Safety Board is in favor of alcohol immobilizers in vehicles and describes them as the only truly effective solution. By installing them, it can be ensured that only sober people can start the car. This could reduce the number of accidents caused by drunk people.

Reader gatschhupfer has a similar view. He would also like to see increased controls with a focus on events in order to tackle this problem.
