What's behind it
Day of love: say it with the language of flowers
Flowers are a popular gift on Valentine's Day. They can serve as a means of communication through the "language of flowers." Red roses are particularly popular for expressing love. Chives are a more unusual choice. Die "Krone" took a closer look at what's behind this.
Gifted flowers speak. They say "Congratulations" and sometimes they also say: "I'm sorry, please forgive me." They say "Don't forget me" or "I love you." Flowers accompany us through life: they are given to women in childbirth and placed on coffins.
They are there when we celebrate birthdays or weddings or when we want to seduce or tempt someone. They are a source of comfort and bring us joy that we can give to others or ourselves – "I can buy myself flowers," as Miley Cyrus sings.
