Language barrier in court ties up time and money

More and more often, German is not spoken in court proceedings and interpreters are needed. The right to this is enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights. The "OÖ-Krone" knows what effects this has on proceedings, which languages are required and who bears the costs for translation assistance.

A defendant can request the free assistance of an interpreter if they do not understand the language of the court proceedings or are unable to express themselves in it. This is stated in Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
