A Carinthian community under the sign of the wind

St. Georgen im Lavanttal is home to Carinthia's first large wind farm, which has been producing electricity there for over two years. The local population was involved right from the start, and now a second wind farm is planned.

Six wind turbines have been turning on the Steinberger Alpe for over two years. "We presented the project at public meetings back then and the mood was positive. That's why it was realized," explains Karl Markut, Mayor of St. Georgen im Lavanttal. "We then committed to ecological building supervision - the impact on nature should be as low as possible."
