How to “fake” honey

A scandal: according to media reports, three quarters of the honey sold in Austria is counterfeit, all of it diluted with "sugar syrup". "Krone" science expert and former beekeeper Christian Mähr has looked into the matter. 

Sugar syrup - given the task of making it, most people would probably dissolve a pile of sugar in a little water. The result is a viscous, colorless liquid. Just "syrup". The more sugar, the thicker. But this is not the syrup that shady traders use to adulterate our good honey. More on this in a moment.
