Austria's economy is not only stuck in a recession, it is also losing more and more of its competitiveness. Rising costs, too few (suitable) workers, expensive energy and failures in digitalization are slowing companies down. The Productivity Council is calling for reforms and has presented the four most important recommendations.

"Austria is at a crossroads," explains Christoph Badelt, Chairman of the Productivity Council and also President of the Fiscal Council. Are we heading back towards an upswing or not? In any case, growth in work output has become increasingly weaker in recent years (see chart below).
