7 euros for a baked doner kebab: we test the novelty
Following the market launch in Germany, it's now Austria's turn: Thuringian restaurateur Mustafa Demirkürek is bringing the first baked kebab to supermarket shelves under the brand name Alzarro. Krone+ has tested the taste experience in advance and is giving away 50 x 2 kebabs to its subscribers - you can find the test report and competition by reading on!
The market launch in Germany was characterized by teething troubles. The planned launch had to be postponed. No wonder, the development phase of the baked doner kebab took a long time. It took 15 years from the idea to the finished product. Or the equivalent of 50,000 test meals and numerous recipe changes.
The product has now been available in the chiller cabinets of Germany's Edeka stores since July 2024. Partly because 50 employees are working at full speed to produce around 100,000 kebabs a day. Demand is high and the product is well received. In the coming days, it should also be available in Austria.
