The full-time salary of a man from Salzburg has been garnished for several years. His story shows how easily the debt trap can snap shut. A second case illustrates the monstrous growth of interest on debts.

It has been clear for a few days that his bankruptcy petition has been accepted and the payment plan is manageable. "My salary will continue to be garnished and I will be debt-free in three years. Now I can see myself out," says Martin Berger happily. He doesn't want to make his real name public because, as he tells "Krone": "Then everyone around me would know."
