Everyone is talking about artificial intelligence (AI), but very few people know what impact it will have on our lives. The "Krone" asked someone who should know: Sepp Hochreiter (57). He was already ahead of his time as a student and heads the Institute for Machine Learning and the Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence at the Johannes Kepler University Linz.
"Krone": Mr. Hochreiter, what exactly is artificial intelligence?
Sepp Hochreiter: AI is a machine that is attributed cognitive abilities similar to those of humans. This includes learning, planning, logical thinking, knowledge representation and - what has recently been added - the ability to acquire new skills. Incidentally, the definition dates back to 1981 and it is always defined in terms of people. There is no definition that can do without people.
