Nuclear power plants and storage facilities in the Czech Republic are ready for expansion

After the fire at the Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhya, people - especially along the northern border of Lower Austria - are once again realizing that the nuclear danger is not (far) away - on the contrary: Dukovany is expanding, with twice the planned capacity! In addition, a debate about nuclear waste repositories is also underway in the neighboring country.

The steam cloud of the Dukovany nuclear power plant looms menacingly on the horizon from the Weinviertel in certain weather conditions. The four reactors (to be increased to 6) are located just 32 kilometers from the border town of Laa an der Thaya, in the Waldviertel: its counterpart Temelin.
