Opponents of the planned Fernpass tunnel in Tyrol are most afraid of the ban on trucks over 7.5 tons. Dietmar Leiter, one of the most committed members of the citizens' initiative, has taken a look at the current situation and finds it more than sobering.

The long-distance pass tunnel planned by the state of Tyrol has fierce opponents - and not just along the B179. There are fears of a new transit route and, above all, a blatant increase in truck traffic. Contrary to the state's assurances, the current driving ban for trucks over 7.5 tons would then no longer be enforceable and this would lead to a super-GAU.
