How food prices rose under the government
The prices of bread, butter and potatoes have risen sharply in international comparison under the Black-Green government. "The government has done nothing about it," criticizes the SPÖ. How much more we have to pay for bread, flour and butter, what the government is doing to counter this and how the Social Democrats want to do better.
Ever since Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer publicly told Infrastructure Minister Leonore Gewessler on Monday what should have been done differently in terms of infrastructure and road construction, government cooperation is as good as over. A personnel package that includes the EU Commissioner should (and must) still be implemented. Several things that were recently "in coordination" will remain unfinished.
These include the price comparison database for foodstuffs announced in May 2023. This is despite the fact that prices for everyday foodstuffs have risen massively. According to a new consumer survey by Statistics Austria, Austrians pay 1000 euros more per year for groceries than Germans. "From psychotropic drugs to burgers: the government's recipes have failed," says SPÖ Club Vice President Julia Herr. The increases are particularly high for essential everyday foods.
