The modern world is a networked one, with very different platforms and services, all of which have one thing in common: They require a combination of username and password, in short a login. As this requires a certain amount of time and cognitive effort given the wealth of applications used on a daily basis - from social media and email services to online shopping - single sign-on solutions have become established over the years.
They allow users to identify themselves with just one login for a variety of services. Facebook, Google and Apple offer such "single sign-on" solutions, as does Microsoft for Windows 11, among others. However, the fact that the latest version of the operating system can also be used without a Microsoft account and with a local account instead has recently been concealed from millions of users.
