Seat belts on planes: for many passengers, they seem to be an annoying evil on vacation. However, buckling up is not only important, as the recent death of a passenger in a Boeing 777-300ER showed, but also mandatory in some cases. We have researched for you when, why and since when seat belts have been used on planes. 

Seat belts are compulsory in cars in Austria - and on planes too. And if not, it is at least a really good recommendation that you should stick to. Why fasten your seatbelt at all? For the same reason as in a car: because turbulence can occur unexpectedly - especially for passengers - and a seatbelt offers protection in this case.
