The Freedom Party was in first place in all available polls for the EU elections right from the start, and for the first time ever, it also took a nationwide lead. The "Krone" analyzed with experts what this means for the individual parties and where a chancellor duel has opened up.

The first blue start-to-finish victory in this year's super election year has been clinched, clearly cementing FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl's role as favorite for the National Council elections in the fall. Harald Vilimsky and his Freedom Party may not have achieved the 27% predicted in the polls, but they still came first.
