Broken ankle – the helicopter arrived

Only when you need it yourself do you realize what a luxury it is that a rescue helicopter arrives quickly in an emergency: a 49-year-old woman from Lower Austria injured her ankle on the hiking trail below the Mahdlgupf in Steinbach am Attersee. 

A 49-year-old woman from the district of Mistelbach (Lower Austria) hiked with her 46-year-old husband from Steinbach am Attersee via the Brennerriesensteig to the Dachsteinblick on Saturday morning. From the summit of Dachsteinblick, the couple continued along hiking trail 820 in the direction of Mahdlgupf when the 46-year-old suddenly fell and injured her right ankle.

It was impossible to continue
She tried to continue on her own, but this was no longer possible due to the severe pain. The couple finally alerted the mountain rescue service by cell phone. The C10 rescue helicopter notified by the rescue coordination center rescued the injured woman using a rope and flew her to the Salzkammergutklinikum Vöcklabruck for further treatment.
