Why even astronomers are now warning about Temu & Co.

A total solar eclipse on April 8 in parts of North America is casting its shadow - and is now even prompting the American Astronomical Society to issue a warning about Amazon, eBay and Temu, among others. Here we reveal the earthly problem behind this and why it will also affect Austria on March 29, 2025 at the latest.

Within a narrow corridor stretching from Mexico via the US states of Texas and Maine to eastern Canada (see below), people will witness the moon shifting in front of the sun for a few minutes on April 8, turning day into night. While the completely eclipsed sun shines about as brightly as a full moon and can therefore be viewed safely with the naked eye, the phases before and after the total eclipse require special eye protection - and those interested should not buy this from Amazon, eBay, Temu and other online retailers, warns the American Astronomical Society (AAS).
