"If you don't invent, you disappear. If you don't patent, you lose." A saying by Erich Otto Häusler that has lost none of its accuracy even after many decades. The patent office helps to protect your own inventions from imitators. However, patents expire after 20 years. Krone+ shows which ideas and products are now coming back onto the market.

Upper Austrians and Styrians do it frequently, Lower Austrians and Salzburgers less often, Burgenlanders hardly ever - we are talking about registering a patent with the Austrian Patent Office. Overall, the number of patent applications in Austria has fallen in recent years. Interestingly, however, the number of positive grants has remained almost constant (see chart below).
