Grand Prix in Linz
“Green” dilemma: no tap water allowed
After last year's successful premiere, the Upper Austria Judo Grand Prix is once again taking place in Linz on Friday with almost 600 athletes. As with every event of this size, the organizers are trying to somehow compensate for the CO₂ emissions caused. However, some requirements make this work extremely difficult.
484 tons of CO₂ emissions were calculated for the January rally in the Freistadt area, including the travel of over 100,000 spectators. Nevertheless, the horsepower spectacle has been able to call itself "climate neutral" since last year. This is because measures such as the annual planting of trees in the region and support for a wind power project in India attempt to somehow offset the CO₂ emissions caused. A cause that is also important to the organizers of the Upper Austria Judo Grand Prix, which starts on Friday in Linz - albeit with some bizarre aspects.
