Passport lost: Iraqi makes “advertisement” in “Krone”

Different countries, different customs: Iraqis who lose their travel document in their home country or abroad do not just have to report the loss to the police. Curious facts came to light after Shakir Mahmoud Shakir, who lives in Kufstein in Tyrol, visited the "Krone" newspaper.

The visit of an Iraqi to the editorial offices caused confusion among the staff of the "Tiroler Krone". "I have lost my passport and would like to file a complaint," explained Shakir Mahmoud Shakir. He was not put off by the suggestion that he would be better off with the police than with Austria's largest daily newspaper.

After a conversation with him and subsequent research, things became clear. The background sounds more than curious and is probably only known to a few locals.
