Two weeks from now will mark the anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine, which has been dependent on Western aid ever since. But this is being put to the test several times this year. Things are also crumbling internally. ORF correspondent Christian Wehrschütz analyzes what this means for the year of decision.

The Russian war in Ukraine has gone through several phases in its two years. At present, the initiative lies with the Russians; for the defenders, the situation looks particularly bleak around the town of Avdijevka in the Donetsk region. However, it would be just as wrong to label Ukraine the loser in this war of attrition as it was for Russia in the first year of the war.
