Crossing borders for health

The cross-border health center in Gmünd is to be expanded and specialist areas added.(Bild: P. Huber)

Patients from Austria and the Czech Republic are treated at the Health-across health center in Gmünd. Staff from both countries also work there. The center is now being expanded to include several medical specialties. 

In its first three years since autumn 2021, the cross-border health center Health-across in Gmünd recorded 64,000 patients. 

Extension to be completed in the fall
Due to its increasing success, the center, which treats both Austrian and Czech patients and also employs specialist staff from both countries, is to be expanded: 30 new containers will be added on a rental basis, providing an additional 400 square meters of space. The extension is due to be completed in the fall of 2025, providing space for new specialist departments.

New medical specialties
In future, gastroscopies and colonoscopies will be carried out. Other specialist areas have not yet been determined, but ophthalmology is also to be offered permanently at the health center in the future, according to well-informed sources.

"The expansion is a strong sign for healthcare in the region and we have certainly not yet reached the end of our plans in Gmünd," emphasizes Provincial Councillor Ludwig Schleritzko.
