Tyrolean mountain guide Georg Kronthaler has spent years researching and developing a tool and a smartphone app for ski tourers to make winter sports in the mountains even safer. Instead of issuing warnings, the 63-year-old shows how skiers in the mountains can assess the danger themselves.

For mountain guide Georg Kronthaler, the five avalanche warning levels, low to very high, which are issued by the avalanche warning services in Austria depending on the situation, are not meaningful enough for individual mountain slopes, as the warning levels are often issued for huge mountain groups covering hundreds of square kilometers.
