When a tax causes the death of events
Because the old amusement tax is now being levied again by several municipalities in Carinthia, event organizers are sounding the alarm: "In some cases, 25 percent is being levied. We would have to double the ticket prices for that!" The "Krone" analyzes what is behind this and which regions are affected.
The entertainment tax, which more and more Carinthian municipalities are reactivating due to their ailing coffers, is depriving the entire event industry of its livelihood. The well-known event organizer Thomas Semmler is also sounding the alarm. "Many municipalities have a spending problem. Instead of thinking innovatively, age-old fees such as the entertainment tax are being pulled out of the drawer. This is no longer in keeping with the times, there is nothing in return from the municipality. This tax harms the economy and robs the population of their desire to have fun because the tickets are no longer affordable," says Semmler.
