What everyday life is like in German support classes

At the Edmund Aigner elementary school in Linz, 90 out of 160 children have a first language other than German. "More than before, but still to a degree that benefits everyone," says principal Doris Grinzinger. The "Krone" visited a lesson in the German support class.

German remedial class, shortly after the start of the lesson: the pupils are preparing for their visit to the children's opera "Hansel and Gretel" at the Bruckner University, the teacher tells the fairy tale using pictures. "What do you see in it?" she asks a pupil. "The girl is sad," replies the boy. The teacher encourages: "Exactly. The girl is sad."
