Lorena Abicht ends her Olympic career

Austrian sailor Lorena Abicht has ended her career in Olympic sport. She took part in the 2021 Summer Games in Japan as a foresailor in the 49erFX class (17th place), this year she tried her hand at the iQFoil discipline off Marseille (23rd). 

Her greatest career success came in 2018 when she and Tanja Frank won silver at the 49erFX World Championship off Aarhus.

"I've decided that I'm not going to do another Olympic campaign. I have achieved my personal goal of qualifying for the Olympic Games after just three years of windsurfing - and this was my personal medal, a wonderful way to finish," Abicht is quoted as saying in a press release.
