What local mayors deserve and whether they are trusted
A mayor in municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants earns almost two and a half times as much as a mayor in municipalities with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants. We asked Johannes Pressl, President of the Association of Municipalities, what he thinks about the income situation and provide facts and figures on confidence surveys and salary categories.
"Our work is well received by the citizens. However, the demands are increasing because we are seen as responsible for things that do not actually fall within our remit." Municipal Association President Johannes Pressl, Mayor of Ardagger, is under no illusions: "However, this can also affect negative decisions - where, for example, the heads of local authorities are often asked to intervene, even though many things are not even decided at municipal level."
