A resounding slap in the face for the ÖVP’s Fernpass plans

Across Tyrol, the Black Party suffered a whopping 15 percent loss in the most recent National Council elections at the end of September. Along the Fernpass route it was significantly higher. For Fritz Gurgiser from the Transitforum, one thing is clear: "The results are an unprecedented vote of no confidence."

It has now been a week since the population punished the People's Party and voted the Freedom Party into first place. In Tyrol, the Blacks received exactly 31 percent (minus 14.81 percent), the Blues 28.72 percent (plus 14 percent). Never before has the FPÖ been so close on the heels of the ÖVP in the black heartland of Tyrol.
