Ex-cop leaves Hütter’s Monaco for the desert

From Ligue 1 to the Stars League: Mo Camara moves from Monaco to Al Sadd in Qatar. The midfielder made a negative impression at Adi Hütter's club in the spring. Now the former Salzburg player is leaving Europe.

Last season, former Salzburg player Mohamed Camara made negative headlines. The midfielder from Mali covered his Monaco kit with a logo that speaks out against homophobia. In talks with coach Adi Hütter and the club's bosses, he reiterated his refusal to stand up against homophobia.

Ligue 1, France's top division, subsequently suspended the 24-year-old for four matches, i.e. until September 15. However, Camara no longer has to serve this time. He leaves Adi Hütter (ex-Salzburg players Philipp Köhn and Takumi Minamino are also under contract in Monaco) and joins Qatari first division club Al-Sadd.

The transfer fee is said to be 16.50 million euros and, according to a club statement, the club and the player have agreed a five-year contract. The Malian made 49 appearances in Ligue 1 and 60 in the Austrian Bundesliga (starting on Friday with the clash between GAK and Salzburg).
