The AMS boss’s biggest problem children

Johannes Kopf, CEO of the Public Employment Service, describes the current situation in Austriain drastic terms: the development of unemployment is currently "particularly bad", says the AMS boss, referring to the figures at the end of March. The "Krone" breaks down which sectors and federal states are particularly affected and why more and more academics are unable to find work.

"The number of people registered with the AMS as unemployed or in training at the end of March 2024 was almost 36,000 people or around eleven percent higher than on the same day last year. This is a particularly bad development for a cut-off date that also fell on Easter Sunday this year, which is actually a good day for employment," says Kopf.
