From June 17
Vienna City Hall Square becomes an arena for European Championship soccer fans
European Championship soccer fever is slowly beginning to rise in Vienna: City Hall Square will become a fan arena for all matches involving the red-white-red team and the decisive games, while all games can be seen in the Prater from mid-June to mid-July.
The UEFA EURO 2024 begins on June 14, and three days later the red-white-red team will be in action for the first time - and Rathausplatz will become a "fan arena": all of the Austrian team's matches, the two semi-finals and the final will be shown on the big screen in front of City Hall.
Restaurants open two weeks early
The food and drink will be catered for: the stalls, which would not have opened until the start of the summer film festival on June 29, will make an early start for the three Austrian group matches - on June 17 against France, on June 21 against Poland and on June 25 against the Netherlands: they will open three hours before the start of each match and close two hours after the end of the game.
"Overcoming boundaries and awakening emotions"
On the semi-final days (July 9 and 10) and for the final (July 14), the Film Festival will be left behind by King Football, but - depending on the performance of the home team - perhaps on other days as well: the city promises that the round of 16 and quarter-finals will also be shown on Rathausplatz if the Austrian team advances.
Mayor Michael Ludwig hopes that the Fan Arena will "not only convey the joy of soccer, but - like sport itself - also help to overcome social boundaries, arouse emotions and thus captivate the entire city".
3000 square meters of space for fans in the Prater
All games can be seen at the large public viewing area in the Prater. The open area next to the Liliputbahn offers 3000 square meters of space for fans. In addition to food and drink, there is also a separate entertainment area. Entry is also free here. If you prefer something more exclusive, you can reserve tables for ten people each in the "Business Zone".
In addition to the two large public viewings, most of the pubs that have broadcast the European Championships in the past have already announced that they will be back this year.
