The consequences of alcohol and drugs at the wheel

This year, the Styrian police will once again be carrying out more speed measurements and alcohol and drug checks during Easter week. Last year, there were 57 reports for drink driving and five for driving under the influence of drugs, and 36 driving licenses were confiscated. But what are the consequences of driving while illuminated and being caught? 

Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol can sometimes have very serious consequences and can even result in fatalities. "The consequences vary," says traffic psychologist Rainer Kastner from the Road Safety Board. "The sanctions and accompanying measures depend on the degree of alcoholization."
