Car crashes into gate of Buckingham Palace
Police operation in front of Buckingham Palace: A driver crashed his car into a gate of the palace in London on Sunday night. The man was immediately arrested and taken to hospital with injuries.
There are no reports of further injuries. Nothing is yet known about the background to the incident, which is said to have occurred at around 2.30 a.m. (local time). According to the police, this is now the subject of the investigation.
Eyewitness photos of the arrest
The "Mirror" newspaper had a shaky video on its website that appears to show the moment of the arrest. It shows a person kneeling in front of Buckingham Palace with his hands on his neck and surrounded by others. A dark compact car is parked between the posts of one of the gates to the palace with its hazard lights on.
The brief report on the Mirror website also said that an eyewitness had been alerted to the incident by a loud crash.
