This is how far e-cars have to go to beat petrol cars
Following EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's U-turn on the end of the combustion engine ban, e-mobility is in a tailspin. Of all things, e-cars are no longer to be classified as climate-neutral because they are clearly not emission-free. This is underpinned by a well-founded study that shows just how incredibly long an e-car has to drive to achieve the greenhouse gas emissions of a petrol car.
The "Krone" newspaper reported on von der Leyen's failure to meet ambitious climate targets. Instead of pushing through a ban on combustion engines by 2035, the plan will be dropped as early as 2026. The EU Commission President wants the Commission to review the effectiveness of the CO2 fleet legislation earlier than planned. The reason for this is the explosive emissions figures available to the "Krone". And now it can happen even faster:
