Incident in Schwendau
Englishman wanted to “get away” after avalanche
An injured snowboarder and an Englishman who escaped with a scare after a surface slide off-piste kept the emergency services on their toes in the Tyrolean ski resort of Horberg on Saturday.
There was a risk of confusion: on Saturday shortly before midday, a German woman (33) had an accident with her snowboard at the "150er Gondola" in the Schwendau (Horberg) ski area in the open ski area. "The woman probably hit her back on a rock and injured herself," explains Andreas Eder from Mayrhofen Mountain Rescue, who happened to be nearby. The Martin 7 emergency helicopter rescued the injured woman with a rope and flew her to hospital.
Surface landslide right next to it
Practically in the immediate vicinity and almost at the same time, an Englishman had triggered a surface slide in open terrain. He then searched for one of his skis and his rucksack in the snow - which is why there was an avalanche alarm. Nobody was buried.
Englishman quickly "found"
The Alpin 5 emergency helicopter then flew to the scene of the accident, where the German woman was being rescued by the helicopter. The Englishman, of course, had little desire for a helicopter flight. Because he sought the distance. But he had no luck: he was quickly "caught" by those involved in the operation. The man is uninjured.
Many avalanches without injuries
There were numerous avalanches throughout Tyrol on Saturday until the early afternoon, but all of them ended without injury. In some cases, the danger level in Tyrol was 4 - great danger.
