Donald Trump causes headaches for the armed forces

Alarm bells are ringing in politics and the military. This has been triggered by statements made by former and possible future US President Donald Trump, who has questioned NATO's obligation to stand by. Armed forces leaders see an increased risk of war for Europe and warn that Austria must prepare for it.

One of them is Lieutenant General Bruno Günter Hofbauer. Trump's statements must be taken seriously. The security situation is not changing for the better. "Things can certainly happen that are unpleasant. I don't want to paint on the wall that Austria will ultimately be directly confronted with a war. Fortunately, I don't see that happening at the moment, but we would do well to prepare ourselves for it," says Hofbauer in the "Krone" interview on the occasion of two years of war in Ukraine.
